Digital X-rays
Digital x-rays are a new x-ray technology that replaces traditional x-ray film. Its main advantage is that the image can be manipulated in many ways. A computer can compare an image to an earlier image in a process called subtraction radiography. By comparing the images side by side, the software program can detect differences between the two images thus facilitating earlier detection of disease. The digital x-ray image can be enlarged, its density can be enhanced, and images can be shared with other dentists via e-mail for immediate consultation. Importantly, patients are exposed to lower levels of radiation. And since the conventional x-ray processing is eliminated, digital x-rays do not produce toxic waste. |
